FREE ONLINE SAFETY RESOURCES
Free lessons to teach digital literacy skills and online safety
Teachers must register for free to access online lesson resources.
The platform is divided into two sections: Interactive Learning and Once Upon Online.
Students start with Interactive Learning, led by their teacher, where they learn about the online safety concept through small quiz-like activities and discussion.
Next, they go onto Once Upon Online in the classroom or with support at home. As they guide the character through realistic choices, they learn about the consequences of negative choices and when it’s time to get support.
Teachers who register with Digital Matters can download the free online safety resources, including lesson plans and slides, for each lesson. Learn more about the teacher’s pack.
Parents can access the Digital Matters platform without registering. They can access the free Parent Companion Guide to learn a little more about Digital Matters and the topic. This helps them support their child’s school in keeping children safe online. They can then follow the Take Home activity set by their child’s teacher, or they can lead their child through both sections.
Parents can choose to complete Once Upon Online with their child a second time. The different possible outcomes can help consolidate what their child learned at school. Alternatively, they can complete the journey on their own and compare with their child’s journey.
